Despite not thinking this was going to be his passion, TJ fell in love with the industry while helping out at a local barbershop after school each day. Seeing the passion the boys at Reform Barber Shop had, he thought maybe it could be for him too.

After completing level 3 and 4 barbering in less than a year, TJ now owns his own barbershop 685 Barbershop before his 18th birthday!! 👏🏻👏🏻

❔What was your experience like at BHB Academy?

“It was great! I never expected to finish both Level 3 and Level 4 in such a short time frame. The group I was with during my time has been always supportive of each others accomplishments, and it’s also great to see majority of our group of barbers graduating this year. Also big thanks to Gina, Ty & Joe for the guidance and support during my time and for the opportunities that Ive had come my way. I would definitely recommend BHB if you want to pursue a career in Barbering.”

❔How does it feel to own a barber shop at 17 years old?

“It’s a real blessing. Im blessed to have family and friends that have supported me in this journey. Back when I first started cutting hair when I was 11 or 12, I would’ve never thought that before my 18th I would have a business. But I’m also blessed that the Highbury Community has taken us in and supported us from Day 1.”

Meet Jason Harkett. Full of focus and true work ethic, Jay graduated with both Level 3 and Level 4 Barbering certificates in December. He managed to become fully qualified in just one year.
He showed exceptional skill in his barbering ability, he was a part of our student leadership team, and was always up for a laugh and a bit of fun. Even got a perm throughout his time with us.👏🏻👏🏻

Jay is now working at Chop Shop Barbers Roslyn. Make sure you go and check him out the next time you’re in need of a haircut. 💈

“My experience at BHB I had a lot of support from the tutors and even other students. I really liked the fact that there were so many different types of people of a wide age range and different walks of life all brought together by the desire to learn how to cut and style and ultimately help people feel good about themselves.”

“I knew how good it felt to walk out of the barber with a fresh cut and thought it would be really cool if I could learn to do that for other people. But not just other men, I wanted to learn so that I could provide anyone however they identified the style that fit them best and made them feel good about themselves. I started in February and never looked back”

What a year! Another push with covid but that didn’t stop huge goals being completed by our wonderful students.
